Convention responds to Government consultation on its proposals for a Community Empowerment and Renewal Bill, 26 September 2012
The Convention has submitted its response to the Scottish Government's consultation on its forthcoming Community Empowerment and Renewal Bill - click here to download (N.B. Also see Pitlochry CC's response). The consultation focuses on the possible role of Community Councils in Community Planning, and also in service delivery.
In particular we would draw your attention to our answer to Question 7, in which we suggest that Community Councils could adopt a wide range of responsibilities with particular focus on the social well-being of the communities they serve.
The Scottish Government will provide an analysis of the responses received to the consultation on its consultation web pages (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations) by the end of November and a report by the end of December 2012. A further consultation on the draft Bill is planned for Summer 2013.
This is the second of two consultations on the role of Community Councils that the Scottish Government has been carrying out over the past year. The first was led by the Scottish Government's Short Life Working Group on Community Councils, which has now published its final report and recommendations - click here.
