Chairman Bob Ferguson stands down from Crieff Community Council
Sep 9 2011 by Katy Gordon, Strathearn Herald
AFTER nearly 30 years serving on Crieff Community Council, Bob Ferguson stepped down this week.
At Monday’s meeting, chairman Bob handed over the reins to Angus MacDonald, wishing the community council “all the best for the future”.
He said: “I have been lucky to work with some wonderful people during my time on the community council and without a community council Crieff would be underrepresented at a local level. So it is very important for the town that we have a strong community council.
“Crieff Community Council as a team have worked hard over the years to organise and fund our annual Hallowe’en children’s party and Hogmanay in the Square, enjoyed by so many people. Without the community council these events would not take place.
“The community council has played a big part in other organisations in the town, always putting the interests of the town first, and although I am leaving the community council I will still be involved with the other groups in the town that I am a member and office bearer of, making Crieff a great place for everyone.”
During his time with Crieff Community Council, Bob was the chairman three times, vice chair twice and also served as treasurer. He represented the town under chairpeople Hubert Strathearn, Roy Haggart, Lucy Thomson, Raymond Galbraith, Stan Melloch and Rhona Brock.
Angus MacDonald, who will be acting chairman until the community council elections in November, paid tribute to the hard work done by Bob over the years.
He said: “I have been in Crieff for over 40 years, and for as long as I can remember, Bob has been associated with the community council.
“He has done a very good job over the years - and it hasn’t always been appreciated how much work he has done - and hopefully in the future he would like to come back to the community council.
“I would like to thank him for all the work he has done.”
Perth and Kinross councillors Anne Younger and Ann Cowan, as well as members of the public in attendance on Monday, reiterated the message of thanks and wished Bob well in the future.
